Feeding

We at TeMar German Shepherds feed a high-quality kibble to all of our dogs. Adults are also fed raw BLT (beef, liver & green tripe). We highly recommend www.nuvet.com (800) 474-7044 (ORDER CODE 24834)

Once the females are bred, we also add the product Structure continuing until they have weaned their pups.

The pups are weaned onto baby rice mixed with fresh goat milk for 4 – 7 days, we then start adding wet kibble made into a mash reducing the baby rice over a couple weeks. We also add Hokamix & structure to the puppy’s food.

We start reducing the goat milk at 5-6 weeks of age. We suggest that the kibble be feed moist throughout life, kibble swells you want this to happen in the bowl not in their stomachs.

Puppies are on VICTOR Classic Hi-Pro Plus Formula Dry Dog Food.  They’re fed twice a day, am & pm.  You can get this food at local pet stores – farm stores or at www.Chewy.com also.

We do not feed nor recommend puppy food. It can cause the puppy to become over weight and grow to fast, which may cause problems with joints etc. in the future. We recommend a high-quality adult food. You must watch the protein levels; some foods have to high a protein for a growing puppy.  Not over 30% protein with 15-20% fat. The kibble should always be feed moist as it swells when wet.   Enough calories to promote good brain growth.

It’s super important that you maintain the calcium & phosphorus ratio listed below.

Calcium, min………………………………………………………..1.2%

Phosphorus, min………………………………………………… 1.0%

  • When the pup are 2.5 to 3 weeks of age, the pups are wormed with Ponazuril for 2 days
  • At the same time, they’ll get a 5-day worming of Panacur
  • 21 days later they get a second Ponazuril for 2 days
  • 4 – 5 days of Panacur
  • The pups receive their first vaccine at 8 weeks when they are ready for new families.

We suggest that you have your new family member micro-chipped.
